![]() ![]() They're researching (per them) ways to make their product without PVA, but in the mean time this is where they're at. They also make an effort to counteract the plastic they use with sponsored beach clean ups, and donate laundry soap to good causes. Liquids have the huge jug plus shipping weight. (skip to 1.5 in the link for more info)Įssentially, if it hits the right microorganisms its fully biodegradable. PVA is one of the few plastics that can be easily broken down by microorganisms. I didn't reallly like how they hedge and call it a polymer on their website, but that's what it is. The Polyvinyl alcohol (I think? It's been a while since I looked at the list.) is indeed a kind of plastic. I had a candid conversation about the environment, the sheets, the plastic in them, and felt a lot better after the conversation. I actually wrote Earth breeze about this because of that ingredient. I agree dryer sheets are completely unnecessary and you can just skip them or use dryer balls if you have static issues. I’ll probably be able to source zero waste liquid from a specialty refill store near(ish - very inconvenient) me, and powder can be a cardboard option (though I make a mess and it isn’t as great in cold water) but I was so excited to recommend the sheets to anyone who would listen, even out of town folks without special refill store access.Įdit to clarify since people are confused, I’m talking about laundry detergent sheets (hence the talk about switching to a liquid or powder) not dryer sheets. At the very least it’s a complicated trade off rather than a clear winner. I feel almost more sketched out by putting a only maybe-degrading plastic straight in to our waterways than recycling a plastic jug for regular liquid. It’s claimed by some to be “biodegradable” and is common in compostable plastics and such, but it’s biodegradability without super special treatment is being seriously questioned and is not well studied yet. For those who don’t know, PVA is a petroleum based plastic polymer used in laundry sheets and pods and a lot of other things. When I bought them seemed like it couldn’t be green washing because it obviously eliminated a plastic container. Think we could change or improve something? Send the mod team a message and we'll see what we can do!ĭoes anyone else feel tricked with laundry sheets? I switched to them a while ago and LOVED them before eventually reading the ingredients and realizing they’re made with PVA. Newbie Questions and General Discussion.Just getting started? We practice this by reducing consumption, choosing reusable goods, recycling, composting, and helping each other improve.
